The Intersection of Health Science and Soul: Your Guide to Integrative Health
Welcome! I am so thrilled to have you join me on this journey into evidence-based integrative health and wellness. I am Dr. Obinna Eleweanya, an Urgent Care / Emergency Room Physician with over 30 years of clinical practice across three subcontinents. I am a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician enthusiastic about holistic health and passionate about exploring the deep connection between our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
For too long, we have regarded health merely as the absence of disease. For over a century, we have faced the same chronic illnesses, all stemming from changes in our epigenetic makeup caused by the environment and lifestyle habits of our Mouth, Muscle, and Mind. Despite our deep understanding of this reality, we have continued to focus our resources on superficial solutions, akin to mopping the floor while the faucet is still leaking.
However, actual health span and longevity are much more than what the current health paradigm of pills and fancy procedures offers. They're about cultivating optimal health in every aspect of our lives—nourishing our bodies with predominantly whole-grain plant-based foods, increasing physical activity, calming our minds through mindful practices, and connecting with our inner selves through spiritual exploration.
This newsletter is a space where I look forward to exploring the intersection of science and our understanding of our role in the greater cosmic scheme, blending evidence-based health practices with ancient wisdom and spiritual insights.
The Core Philosophy: The Mouth, Muscle and Mind Concept (3Ms)
My approach to health is rooted in the belief that we are whole, self-sustaining, self-healing beings with interconnected body, mind, and spirit systems. In Physiology, this is called Homeostasis or equilibrium. When one area is out of balance, it affects the others. That's why I advocate for an integrative approach to health and any subsequent intervention that addresses all aspects of our being.
